Artush Voskanyan The Surrealist and Visual Artist
In the region of Ararat's Vedi, Artush Voskanyan was born in 1966. His art school in the town of Vedi, where he received his diploma in 1980, was named in his honour in 1985. The artist carried on the legacy of the well-known Italian painter Giuseppe Archimboldo, who founded the Mannerism school and was a precursor to surrealism, in his creations.
Voskanyan is an accomplished painter from Armenia whose works have been shown in Russia, Argentina, and the US. His paintings are creative optical illusions of beautiful human faces painted on canvas using a combination of animal, bird, tree, and landscape shapes. The viewer initially sees these paintings as portraits.
Smaller details, which relate to and emphasize the subject of the portrait, are however revealed upon closer inspection and closer distance. Voskanyan tries to express his worldview through
his art.
